toronto sets the stage for a nationwide climate dialogue with launch of first-ever climate week
TORONTO, ON – May 27, 2025 – In an ambitious move to spearhead climate awareness and action, individuals behind Toronto’s grassroots climate movement – best known for launching Climate North – have announced the first-ever Toronto Climate Week (TOCW), set to debut with a kickoff event in Fall 2025.
This initiative, developed in partnership with local leaders, scientists, activists, and grassroots communities, and supporting organizations like ArcTern Ventures, MaRS Discovery District, Women and Climate, Centre for Social Innovation, DeepSky, and others - stands as a beacon for nationwide collaboration around sustainable solutions and climate-driven innovation.
A Timely Call for Re-Envisioning Canada's Role as a Climate Leader
As Canada grapples with the urgent need to reimagine its home market into one that emphasizes resilience and sustainability, TOCW emerges as a vital catalyst for uniting diverse sectors and disciplines across the nation. Originating alongside the grassroots beginnings of Climate North – a local nonprofit known for hosting high-quality climate-focused events – TOCW is set to grow into an even larger movement. TOWC aims to set the tone for national climate conversations rooted in collaboration and collective action.
"With the U.S. stepping back from climate efforts, a global leadership void has emerged, and the world is looking for who will step up next. This is Canada’s moment, and Toronto Climate Week (TOCW) is where that leadership begins," says Becky Park-Romanovsky, Founder of Toronto Climate Week. “By bringing together grassroots movements, scientists, businesses, policymakers, and the public, TOCW creates the space where ideas turn into action and bold partnerships take shape. This isn’t just an event; it’s a movement to position Canada as the climate leader we need — and to make Toronto the heart of that leadership for years to come.”
A Country-Wide Call to Unite and Innovate
Debuting with a city-spanning inaugural 2-day event in Fall 2025, followed by an expansive week of programming in June 2026, TOCW promises to be a festival-meets-forum experience. It will blend policy, art, and enterprise, capturing the very essence of Toronto: diverse, creative, and ready to lead. The week-long event is designed to foster momentum through panels, interactive installations, performances, hands-on workshops, lifestyle events, and more, serving as a dynamic intersection where business, culture, and community converge.
“ArcTern invests across Europe and North America, monitoring thousands of breakthrough cleantech startups”, outlines Murray McCaig, Founder & Managing Partner at ArcTern Ventures. “We believe Canada—and Toronto in particular—is uniquely positioned to become a global hub for cleantech innovation. TOCW presents a powerful opportunity to unite a global network of startups, investors, and partners to accelerate the journey from idea to commercialization.”
